BREAKING THE WAVES (Lars von Trier, 1996, 156 Minuten)

(Text vom 21. Juli 2010)

i watched breaking the waves by lars von trier
some early works and his first short/s were shown before
in the beginning i somehow liked the film
later i started to think and try to reconsider
why are there often crazy women in his movies?
why is this women's role such a crazy christian bore?
and I got out of the cinema at the moment she helplessly tries to
make her husband's wish come true
which is that his wife shall have sex with other men and
tell him afterwards because of his body being paralyzed forever
and this would bring them closer together again
this would make him feel living and wanna live on
but she loves him and wants nobody else,
also doesn't seem to miss sex as much so that she would
consider having sex with other people
so he forces her because her best friend told to the husband
she'd do anything to make him happy,
at first he tries to just ask her to have sex with others
later he changes his tactique and tells her it'd be for his sake
not for hers to, if she'd only please had sex finally with other men and tell her husband afterwards-
yes so i went out at the point where she
tries to have sex with her new psychiatrist
at his home without talking to him but just
making advances to him by winking and doesn't try to allure him at all
but blantly lies later naked on his bed to ask him to fuck her-

maybe it's because i'm seriously in love these days,
maybe it was because i can't take this no-communicating or totally lost kind of communication
between loving persons and also between persons who wanna have sex with
each other, but instead trapping each other blantly into
emotional hells again and again.

i don't wanna say this film is good or bad or anything,
i didn't watch it further so i can't quite say anything much
about it, only that it didn't felt to be the right moment
to watch it for me then.

---

also the woman who wrote a book about female roles
in triers films seemed for trying to achieve critical
writing on triers films to be a little bit too fascinated/
a fan of his films, maybe she still achieved a good aim,
it's to be found out by concentration on it via reading.
